This young man is not just a soft-spoken creative genius. He has achieved such a remarkable feat in a very short span of time.
Meet Jerry Albaniel, the founder of JA Video Production
Jerry’s deeper passion for video making has made him travel 18 provinces in PNG, visited 3 overseas countries doing what he loves and getting paid, and has interviewed former Prime Ministers and prominent Leaders in PNG. His work has been featured overseas.
This young man is the true definition of dream, commitment, perseverance, and success.
“My passion for filmmaking started back in 2015 when I was given an iPhone 6 as a gift”
“I started creating short 15-second videos and posting on my Instagram since that was the video limit back then”
Jerry did what most students in PNG failed to do and that makes his story very unique.
He started seriously pursuing his passion apart from being a student in college.
“The first paid gig that I was asked to film was a music video back in 2016.
He had no proper equipment, have zero idea about the creative industry space, and heck, he didn’t even know how to pull it off.
BUT guess what?
When the opportunity presented itself, Jerry said YES and later figured out what to do and the result speaks for itself.
“I had no clue how I was going to pull that off, but I decided to give it a shot”
“It turned out great, and when it was released, my work started to get noticed, and soon after that, I started landing clients”
His work started to be noticed. And he started getting more and more invites. But he had to make a tough decision.
Should he continue his studies or pursue his passion full-time? He chose the latter.
“At that time, I was deciding whether to continue my studies or pursue this full time. It was a tough decision”
Fortunately, UPNG canceled the rest of the semester due to the Prime Minister’s Vote of No Confidence.
The young and self-taught videographer and soon-to-be entrepreneur saw an opportunity and went all in.
“That was when I saw that as an opportunity to focus more on videography and photography. The first two years were a struggle”
Again, he hit the brick wall. He had no proper equipment and he just didn’t have enough money to buy his own.
Did he give up? Hell no! He instead borrowed equipment to use
“I didn’t have all the equipment needed to run a video production company. I use to hire cameras. I didn’t have a MacBook to edit my videos back then, so I used iMovie on my iPhone 6.
“I had no idea what the technical terms used in photography/videography, what editing software professionals use.
How did he master the art of video making and photography?
He used the internet to teach himself and above all, went out and took more videos, took more photos, messed up a lot over and over again but kept going until he mastered the craft.
This is a simple but extremely powerful success lesson for anyone out there who dares to take the unconventional pathway to success.
“But, over the years, I’ve learned from watching online tutorials and other professionals in the business”
Today, Jerry is one of the most sought-after videographer and photographer in Papua New Guinea.
If you told him back then that Jerry Albaniel would one day travel 18 provinces in PNG including 3 overseas countries and interview former Prime Ministers and some prominent figures in PNG, young Jerry would have laughed hysterically at you.
But the kid, that started editing videos using a mobile phone has become a master of the art and now handles sophisticated equipment and owns his own video production business.
“It was only in 2019 when I finally owned all my equipment. And being able to achieve that while supporting my family is one thing, I would have never thought possible but with God nothing is impossible.
“Since taking this full-time, it has opened doors to a lot of opportunities I would never have imagined if I hadn’t taken a risk”
“I’ve traveled to 18 provinces in Papua New Guinea, three overseas countries, interviewed former Prime Ministers and other well-respected individuals. It’s been full-on since”
“Right now, I’m doing this alone, but I do see the potential of making this big in the long run” he says
Jerry’s vision is to grow his video production company and bring in young aspiring filmmakers/photographers.
