Connectivity, digital infrastructure, fintech and the systems changing how Pacific business operates.
Person-to-person digital transfers in Fiji reached FJ$2.4 billion at June 2025, up from FJ$1.8 billion a year earlier, according to the Reserve Bank of Fiji. Vodafone’s M-PAiSA handled more than FJ$6 billion in transactions, and remittances paid straight into mobile wallets rose 25.6% to FJ$692.5 million. Fiji still has no specific law protecting the personal data running through these systems. Cabinet has endorsed a National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy, and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says Fiji will move to accede to Convention 108+, but officials told Parliament the framework is still being written. The cybercrime law amendments cannot proceed until the law passes. Police have recorded 1,672 scam cases since 2017, with losses above FJ$1.3 million and just 11 convictions. Google’s subsea cables landed in Suva in January 2025 and 5G is now live. The government has still not published a date for Fiji’s first data protection bill.
