Remington Group CEO on 77 Years of Innovation, Resilience, and PNG’s Digital Future

Remington PNG, CEO, Justin Kieseker

Since 1948, Remington Group has been a steadfast pillar in Papua New Guinea’s business landscape, evolving from a modest office equipment supplier to the country’s leading technology and service provider. This iconic company’s journey is intertwined with PNG’s own path to progress and nationhood.

Now, under the leadership of newly appointed CEO Justin Kieseker, Remington looks towards the future with confidence, aiming to lead PNG’s digital transformation and sustainable growth.

The Early Days: Laying the Foundation for Modern Business in PNG

Remington first opened its doors in Port Moresby in 1948, at a time when Papua New Guinea was just emerging into formal business infrastructure.

Justin Kieseker reflects, “Back then, Remington was introducing modern office technology to a young nation finding its feet.” Originally a supplier of typewriters and office equipment, these machines were vital tools for government agencies, schools, and local businesses, helping lay the foundation for administration and communication.

Embracing Change: From Analog Roots to Digital Excellence

As PNG developed, so did Remington. The company adapted to global technological shifts by transitioning from analogue to digital office equipment. “We moved from typewriters to photocopiers, faxes, and the first computer systems,” Justin explains. This evolution reflected a keen awareness of market demands and the promise of technology to enhance productivity and connectivity.

A Proud PNG-Owned Enterprise

Over time, Remington grew beyond its foreign ownership to become fully Papua New Guinean-owned, solidifying its place as a truly local enterprise. Justin emphasizes, “This shift was a turning point. Becoming PNG-owned was about commitment to our people and country.” The company’s focus expanded beyond selling products. It began offering comprehensive technology solutions including installation, servicing, and support, anticipating the growing demand for end-to-end service in the digital era.

A Diversified Business with a Unified Vision

As Remington diversified, it consolidated into the Remington Group—a structure facilitating strategic management of multiple companies and service lines. The group’s portfolio includes:

  • Remington Technology: The only authorised Konica Minolta Dealer in PNG with a 30-year partnership

  • BizPrint: Commercial and corporate printing, merchandising, and branding solutions

  • FX Business Centre: The sole authorised Fujifilm dealer in PNG with 14 years of experience

  • OF Communications (OFC): A leading ICT solutions provider, enhancing unified communications and MaxiNet internet services

  • Remington Hi-Tek: An emerging online and retail technology store with new locations in Lae and Port Moresby

Justin highlights, “Our diversity allows us to meet a range of customer needs—from printing and communications to cutting-edge ICT solutions—under one roof.

Resilience Reflecting a Nation’s Spirit

Celebrating PNG’s 50th Jubilee in 2025 also casts light on Remington’s own enduring journey. Justin notes, “Our story mirrors that of PNG. Both have endured economic shifts, political changes, and natural challenges. Resilience is part of our DNA.” The Group has actively invested in local talent development—training Papua New Guineans and promoting them into leadership, reflecting PNG’s ambitions for self-reliance and national pride.

Strengthening Partnerships for Impact

Remington’s contribution to PNG’s development extends beyond business. The company partners with government agencies, schools, nonprofits, and private enterprises to deliver technology solutions supporting education, public services, and enterprise growth. “We’re more than a supplier—we’re a partner in PNG’s progress,” Justin states.

Adapting for Local Needs Across PNG’s Diverse Landscape

Understanding PNG’s varied geography and infrastructure, Remington tailors its services. Justin explains, “What works in Port Moresby might not fit Lae, Mount Hagen, or remote regions.” To address this, Remington operates regional service centers and support teams in Lae, Goroka, Mount Hagen, Madang, Wewak, Kokopo, Kimbe, and Kavieng. This ensures reliable access to installation, maintenance, and technical support nationwide.

Vision for the Future: Leading PNG into the Digital Era

With his recent appointment as CEO, Justin Kieseker is clear on his vision. “Remington has been part of PNG’s story for over 75 years. Now, my goal is to honour that legacy and drive the Group into a new era of digital leadership, inclusive growth, and sustainability.”

He sees Remington playing a pivotal role in driving digital transformation across sectors, empowering local businesses, government, and communities toward prosperous futures.

Justin concludes, “Our history is a foundation. The future will be about embracing innovation while staying true to the people and places that have made us who we are.” For PNG’s oldest and most respected technology firm, that future looks bright.
