Marriott International, the world’s largest hotel company, has appointed Kiran Andicot as Senior Vice President to lead its South Asia region. In this new role, Kiran will oversee operations and development across Marriott’s portfolio in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and beyond. This appointment comes at a time when luxury travel in the Asia Pacific region is experiencing rapid growth, making Kiran’s leadership pivotal for Marriott’s expanding presence.
Steady Growth Through Strong Leadership
Kiran Andicot brings nearly 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, covering hotel operations, consulting, planning, feasibility, and development. Since joining Marriott’s Development & Feasibility team in 2006, he has built a deep understanding of South Asian markets and earned a reputation for steady leadership and business insight.
Under his leadership, Marriott has signed more than 220 hotels across South Asia, setting new records including 42 hotel signings and 7,000 rooms in India during 2024 alone. One landmark achievement was securing a deal to affiliate The Fern’s 115 properties with Marriott’s Series brand, expanding Marriott’s footprint beyond major cities to emerging Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations like Surat, Shimla, Durgapur, and Coorg.
Marriott is also diversifying into the residences market, offering luxury apartments equipped with hotel amenities. This move reflects changing traveler preferences for longer stays and personalized service.
Rajeev Menon, President of Marriott International Asia Pacific excluding China, said, “These accomplishments are a testament to Kiran’s deep understanding of South Asia markets, strong relationships with our owner partners, incisive business acumen, and steady leadership. I am confident that with Kiran’s vast expertise supported by our experienced leadership bench, Marriott will continue its trajectory of sustained growth in South Asia.”
Before joining Marriott, Kiran gained valuable experience in real estate and hospitality consulting with EY and HVS and worked operationally in India’s top hotel groups IHCL and Oberoi.
Marriott International’s Global Reach and Vision
Founded in 1927, Marriott International operates over 8,000 properties in 139 countries. Its many brands range from high-end luxury to affordable stays, including well-known names like The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, JW Marriott, W Hotels, and Sheraton.
Marriott aims to offer guests modern, comfortable experiences by combining local culture with global standards. Its loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy, is one of the most popular worldwide, drawing millions of repeat customers. The company continuously invests in technology, sustainability, and service innovation to stay ahead in the competitive hospitality industry.
Asia Pacific’s Luxury Travel Boom
Asia Pacific is becoming a hotspot for luxury travelers, thanks to rising incomes, an expanding middle class, and greater regional connectivity. Countries like China, India, Japan, and Southeast Asian nations are fueling demand for upscale hotels, exclusive resorts, and personalized experiences.
The pandemic reshaped traveler expectations toward safety, hygiene, and flexible services, and luxury hotels adapted quickly. Marriott’s global system helped its properties respond well by offering contactless check-in, private villas, and enhanced cleaning protocols.
Younger travelers, including millennials and Gen Z, also seek travel experiences that combine authenticity, social responsibility, and comfort. Marriott’s diverse brand portfolio allows it to offer luxury accommodations that blend local culture and sustainability, catering to these evolving preferences.
In Asia Pacific, luxury brands like The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis are expanding in prime destinations such as Bali, Tokyo, Mumbai, and Shanghai. These hotels serve both leisure and business travelers who expect world-class service.
The Importance of South Asia
South Asia is an emerging luxury travel market, with India at its core. Infrastructure improvements, new airports, and economic growth support rising tourism numbers.
Marriott’s focus on expanding into secondary cities opens new opportunities. These cities have growing business hubs, cultural sites, and natural attractions, appealing to travelers seeking unique experiences outside traditional metro areas.
The company’s move into luxury residences fits growing demand from wealthy travelers and expatriates wanting longer stays with the comforts of home backed by hotel services.
Kiran Andicot’s promotion shows Marriott’s commitment to expanding in South Asia and Asia Pacific’s luxury travel market. His expertise, combined with Marriott’s strong global brand and resources, positions the company to grow faster and meet changing traveler needs.
With travel bouncing back and new markets opening, South Asia is set to become even more important to Marriott’s global strategy. Kiran’s leadership will play a key role in shaping this exciting next chapter.
